Jammu tops mercury chart, Gulmarg remains coolest in J&K | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 13 (KNO): Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir remained dry on Monday, with day temperatures hovering close to normal across the Union Territory, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The MeT department told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that no rainfall was recorded at most weather stations between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, while only Gulmarg received 1.6 mm of precipitation during the period. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 28.6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches below normal, while the minimum settled at 15.8 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees below the seasonal average. Jammu registered a high of 34.1 degrees Celsius, marginally below normal, with the minimum at 23.4 degrees Celsius. Among other stations, Qazigund recorded a maximum of 28 degrees Celsius, Banihal 30 degrees, Katra 30.4 degrees, Batote 27 degrees and Bhaderwah 27.4 degrees. Pahalgam recorded a high of 23 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg remained the coolest place in the Valley at 18.4 degrees Celsius. Night temperatures also remained below normal at most stations. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 8.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Pahalgam at 9.6 degrees Celsius. The IMD said light rainfall during the previous 24 hours was reported at a few places, including Bhaderwah (2.4 mm), Pahalgam and Jammu (2 mm each), Gulmarg (2 mm), Kukernag (1.3 mm), Srinagar (0.8 mm), Batote (0.6 mm), Banihal (0.4 mm), Kupwara (0.2 mm), Katra (0.2 mm) and Qazigund (0.1 mm). Humidity levels remained relatively high across the Union Territory, with morning humidity ranging between 71 and 90 per cent at most stations, the MeT department said—(KNO)
